ANEMONES
ABOUT ANEMONES
Another winter beauty, Anemones are delicate yet bold. They are known for their dark centers and paper-like petals. Anemones have a way of drawing the eye without overpowering the composition of an arrangement. They can be used as a transition from winter to spring, offering an effortless look with a touch of moodiness.
Pronounced: uh-NEM-uh-neez
Seasonality: Late winter to early spring
Designer’s Tip: Anemones have the ability to grow in water after they’ve been cut (similar to tulips). Their stems tend to be more fragile and naturally curved. To improve vase life, I recommend designing them in a glass cylinder, or when used in arrangements opting for chicken wire rather than foam. This allows for a longer vase life and protects the integrity of their natural curve, giving you a beautiful, organic shape. If you’re looking for a stem with a natural curve, she’s your girl.
DESIGNER’S TIP
EMBRACE THEIR CURVY STEMS AND DESIGN THEM IN FOAM FREE ARRANGEMENTS FOR LONGER VASE LIFE
Why I personally love them: I love the duality this flower brings. It’s both romantic yet bold, effortless yet moody.
They symbolize anticipation and serve as a subtle reminder that spring is near. This is a bloom I often add at the end of the design process. It gives a centerpiece its focal point and movement. You have to meet anemones where they are, and when you do, they are truly stunning.
